Your mid-year wellness check

Hey Reader,

The year is more than half over, and things don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. I know the work you do is critical, and the stress and uncertainty of this moment can feel overwhelming.

I also know you have what it takes to keep things moving, but you can't do that if you're running on empty. As you plan for the end of the year, I invite you to take a moment this week to pause, reflect, and reset.

This is an opportunity to slow down, recharge, and prepare you and your team for a successful year-end as you navigate the stress and uncertainty of this season.

Here are three simple steps for conducting your mid-year wellness reset.

PAUSE

Moving from the chaos of this season to calm requires self-awareness to maintain your rhythm and avoid getting swept up in everything happening around you.

One way to do this is to create a five-minute start-and-stop routine that grounds you before the start of your workday and centers you once the day ends. This ritual is something you do to pour into yourself.

Already have a ritual? Now’s the time to assess whether it still meets your needs or if adjustments are necessary for the next six months.

Have more than five minutes to spare? You can increase the time for your ritual to a length that works for your schedule.

REFLECT

Review the past six months and ask yourself:

  • What was my biggest win?
  • What’s the most meaningful lesson I learned?
  • What’s the #1 thing I want to accomplish for myself and at work before the year ends?

RESET

Commit to a wellness plan of action that will help you end the year strong. Keep your plan manageable by limiting it to what can fit on a standard index card or your phone’s background. Consider these two questions for your index card plan:

  • What’s my one-sentence vision for my well-being over the next six months?
  • What resources do I currently have to support my vision?

As we approach the challenges ahead, I invite you to remember that real and lasting impact occurs when we take time to rest, recover, and refocus.

Slowing down and refilling your cup isn’t selfish or lazy. If you want to make a difference during this crucial time, your well-being isn’t optional—it’s a requirement.

Be well,

Meico

About Meico

I’m Meico Marquette Whitlock.

Imagine a world where leaders and teams don’t just grind through the day but thrive in their work, without sacrificing their well-being. That’s the world I’m working to create.

I’m here to help you embody what it means to truly thrive and know your well-being is your greatest asset.

As a workplace well-being strategist, I’m on a mission to help purpose-driven leaders rewrite the narrative of success. I believe that impactful work doesn’t have to come at the cost of your health or happiness, and I’ve made it my life’s work to show you how.

I’m the founder and CEO of Mindful Techie, author of How to Thrive When Work Doesn’t Love You Back and The Intention Planner, and a certified trauma-informed mindfulness teacher.

I partner with mission-driven organizations to create cultures where belonging, balance, and purpose take center stage. In a world full of burnout and overwhelm, I help you navigate life, work, and technology in harmony.

During my previous career in the tech, nonprofit, and government sectors, I experienced more than my fair share of burnout and overwhelm in the name of making a difference. As a recovering workaholic, I use what I’ve learned to help changemakers like you make an impact without self-sacrifice.

I partner with you to create strategies and deliver programs that help your team scale impact while sustaining the right balance between life, work, and technology in today’s changing world.

I have worked with organizations such as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Cigna, and Greenpeace, and have been a featured speaker on ABC News, Fox 5, and Radio One. I'm also a former triathlete, love salsa dancing, and make the world’s best vegan chili! :-)

Are you ready to optimize your well-being and elevate your well-doing? Let’s get started!

Graphic: What You Should Focus On

Hey Reader, Given the state of the world, I’ve been reflecting a lot on the nature of change. During the 2016 election, I was the communications lead for an association focused on ending HIV and hepatitis. There was the initial shock by many as the results were confirmed. Shock turned to anxiety and fear of funding cuts, program rollbacks, and the undoing of hard-fought progress. Then a sobering reality set in. The need for our work was still immense, and the work needed to keep moving...
